Your Guide to the History of FC Barcelona

By Ben Davidge

Soccer is the most popular sport worldwide with 1.04 billion people tuning in to see the world cup final in 2014. The biggest debate in football now a days is who’s the best club in the world. In my opinion it is Football Club de Barcelona or FC Barcelona. Today I am going to be talking to you about the history of this spanish club and how well they’re doing today.

Formed in 1899 FC Barcelona gradually rose in popularity. By the 1930’s they had built a new stadium and signed a couple big figures of football at the time. Hopes were high as la Blaugrana wanted to achieve greatness in their next couple of seasons, but after a shaky start to the 1930/31

season it caused a huge setback for the club. They had recently built Les Corts

Stadium, a stadium that would be the home of Barcelona FC for many years to

come. And singed Angel Arocha, who would then go on to be the leading goal

scorer in throughout the next couple of seasons. Fans wanted Barcelona to

thrive in La Liga after becoming the newest catalan team. In 1925 Rivera, the

dictator at the time expelled Joan Gamper out of spain after his side was

accused of promoting catalan nationalism, which at the time was a big deal

because tensions were high and a civil war was on the verge of happening. In

1930 the club hit a turning point because they had just found out that Joan

Gamper the founder of FC Barcelona had died. They kept moving forward though and from then on they had become the most feared team in La Liga.

Today's Barcelona is a multi-million dollar company with millions of fans all over the world. La Blaugrana now has two sides, the women's team and the men’s team. The women's side have been around since 1988 but have only recently gotten the attention they deserve. Although the women's team don’t get the same recognition as the mens side they’re equally as good. To this day FC Barcelona still play at Camp Nou, and probably will for another few decades to come. 2004 Lionel Messi made his debut for the club and from then on he has become the best player in the world, five ballon d’or, one of the most prestigious trophies in the world. Luis Suarez signed for the club in 2014 after being banned from play football for four months after biting italian defender Chiellini in the world cup. FC Barcelona also signed Neymar in 2013 from brazilian side Santos, Neymar is considered among the best in the world, but I think in years to come he will be the best soccer player in the world. These three players form an amazing trio, making keepers look stupid and scoring beautifully with elegance.

A lot of hard work and love for the game has gone into making this team what it is today. With millions of fans around the world they don’t disappoint, each game they take it to the next level always trying to improve the sport. This rich history, strong foundation and support from the people has laid the path for more success and better things in the future.
